Technical Bulletin (TB-IJ-10) Connection of Exterior Deck to IB I-Joist

Beginning in the 2009 edition of IRC (International Residential Code), there is a tension-tie requirement to meet prescriptive DCA 6-09 deck installation requirements for residential exterior decks. International Beams has released a new Technical Bulletin (TB-IJ-10) that provides guidelines on how to make this tension-tie connection to a floor system comprised of IB (International Beams) I-joists.

Technical Bulletin (TB-IJ-9), Adding web filler for 2-ply (double member) IB I-joists with 2×4 flanges

When adding web filler for 2-ply (double member) IB I-joists with 2×4 flanges, it can be less labor-intensive to use dimensional lumber rather than cut structural wood panel to depth. The new TB-IJ-9 provides an alternate to the structural wood panel filler indicated in the IB literature.

Technical Bulletin (TB-LVL-3), IB LVL Ledger Fastening

International Beams LVL (laminated veneer lumber) typically comes in 1 ¾” thicknesses and is suitable for use as ledgers to support floor (or roof) framing. For example, IB LVL may be used to support an intermediate floor at balloon-framed walls, or it may be used to support floor framing when poured concrete foundation walls extend above the floor level.

Technical Bulletin (TB-IJ-7) , Sloped-End Cut IB I-Joists

There are situations where architectural geometric restrictions of the cornice detailing require that the attic ceiling/floor joist be cut at a slope to match the sloped rafters. The bearing and shear capacity can be seriously compromised with this type of sloped-end cut on an I-Joist. International Beams has tested sloped-end cuts on IB I-joists. As a result of these APA-witnessed tests, we have established maximum end reactions for unreinforced and reinforced sloped-end cuts.
